Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars located at the back of your mouth. They typically emerge between the ages of 17 and 25, and in some cases, they may not come through at all. While some people have no problems with their wisdom teeth, others experience complications that may require removal.

Many people need to have their wisdom teeth removed because these molars can lead to a variety of issues. The most common reasons for extraction include:

-
Impaction: When wisdom teeth don’t have enough space to emerge fully, they can become trapped beneath the gum line, causing pain and swelling.
-
Infection: Impacted wisdom teeth can trap food and bacteria as they are very difficult to keep clean, leading to infection or gum disease.
-
Crowding: Wisdom teeth may push against neighboring teeth, causing misalignment or shifting of your other teeth.
-
Cysts or Tumors: In rare cases, cysts or tumors can form around impacted wisdom teeth, potentially damaging nearby bone or teeth.

If you are experiencing any discomfort, pain, or other symptoms related to your wisdom teeth, or if your previous dentist has recommended removal, it’s important to schedule a consultation with us. We will assess the wisdom teeth along with a full mouth x-ray (OPG) to determine whether they can be removed by us in the chair under local anaesthetic or whether you will need to be referred to our local oral surgeon to have them removed under general anaesthetic. Early evaluation can help prevent complications and ensure that you receive the right care at the right time.
