At Mansfield Dental, one of the most common questions we hear is:"How often should I see the dentist?"It’s a great question—and an important one. Seeing your dentist regularly is one of the best things you can do to maintain a healthy smile and prevent future problems. But how often is “regularly”?

Let’s break it down.

Why Regular Dentist Visits Matter

Even if your teeth feel fine, that doesn’t mean everything is perfect. Your dentist can detect early signs of issues like cavities, gum disease, or oral cancer before they become bigger (and more expensive) problems. The goal is prevention, and that starts with your dentist.

At Mansfield Dental, we recommend that most patients see the dentist every six months for a routine cleaning and exam. However, some patients may need to see the dentist more frequently depending on their oral health needs.

Who Might Need to See the Dentist More Often?

There are some cases where your dentist might recommend visits every 3–4 months:

  • You have gum disease

  • You’re prone to cavities

  • You have a history of oral health issues

  • You’re undergoing orthodontic or other dental treatments

  • You’re a smoker or use tobacco products

If you're unsure where you stand, just ask our dentist Dr Joon Park at Mansfield Dental—he will create a custom care plan just for you.

What Happens During a Dentist Visit?

At each visit to Mansfield Dental, your dentist will:

  • Check your teeth and gums

  • Take X-rays if needed

  • Clean your teeth to remove plaque and tartar

  • Check for signs of cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer

  • Answer any questions you have about your oral health

It’s quick, easy, and can save you a lot of trouble down the road.

Don’t Wait for Pain to See the Dentist

Many people wait until they feel pain or discomfort before calling the dentist. But by that point, the problem is usually more serious. That’s why we always say: don’t wait. Preventive care is the key—and your dentist is your partner in protecting your smile.
